Kapsch BusinessCom buys one of the most secure data centres in Europe: Takeover of the Kapfenberg maximum security data centre "earthDATAsafe"

Kapsch BusinessCom AG is continuing its strategic policy of growth by taking over the earthDATAsafe from Styria-based company DCCS GmbH with effect from 1 July 2008. The provider of communication, network and IT solutions will then also have its own maximum security data centre. The very nature of the earthDATAsafe makes it one of the most secure data centres in Europe and a perfect addition to the range of services offered by Kapsch.

"Vienna - Kapfenberg means data security", as can now rightly be asserted. This is because Kapsch BusinessCom, the leading provider of communication, network and IT solutions with registered offices in Vienna, has acquired the earthDATAsafe in Styria. Kapsch BusinessCom now owns one of the most modern and secure data centres in Austria. With the acquisition of the data centre from Styria-based company DCCS GmbH, Kapsch is continuing its strategic policy of growth and expanding its range of services in the area of IT out-tasking services. The infrastructure of the earthDATAsafe makes it possible for Kapsch to expand its established consulting and solution competence in the area of IT with server housing and application hosting and also to process projects entirely in-house in the future.

"The acquisition of the earthDATAsafe represents a milestone in our strategic policy of growth. Kapsch can now clearly expand its range of services and immediately offer a more comprehensive IT portfolio", explains Dr. Kari Kapsch, Chairman of the Management Board of Kapsch BusinessCom. "The decision to opt for the Vienna-Kapfenberg technology axis was an easy one, thanks to the quality of the Kapfenberg maximum security data centre, which has been in operation since the end of 2003. This brings us closer to our goal of becoming a successful leading provider of total ICT solutions".

The earthDATAsafe is a modern and secure data centre. The special position of the facility guarantees maximum security: The technical infrastructure of the earthDATAsafe is located in a system of tunnels that extend 320 metres into the mountain and is covered with rock up to a height of 150 metres. Surrounded by millions of cubic metres of rock, the IT infrastructure inside the mountain is ideally protected against disruptive electromagnetic signals. Redundant connections to the electricity and data network ensure failsafe operation. Building-related and organisational security measures, such as restricted access, fire alarm systems with early warning feature and automatic extinguisher systems guarantee protection against internal disruptions.

The data centre is excellently suited to the operation of infrastructure, servers, middleware and applications. The portfolio is supplemented by services in the area of data management. The total of 24 highly qualified employees of DCCS, who will in future work for Kapsch, focus on the areas of system engineering and server support. Nineteen 19 employees work in the data centre at the DCCS location in Raaba near Graz, while the remaining IT specialists support the data centre located at Kapfenberg.

The purchase agreement was signed on 24 June and the transaction will be completed on 1 July 2008. The negotiations also gave rise to a partner agreement covering the areas of data centre services to be provided by Kapsch in return for software services by DCCS. Longstanding experience in the customisation of software allows DCCS to implement customer-specific requirements perfectly and to develop complex IT business solutions that enable the customer to increase its value added.

DCCS used to be exclusively active within the Daimler Group as a former subsidiary of Daimler AG. In future, the company will concentrate on the areas of software development and consulting and make its services accessible to a wider customer base. DCCS has its registered offices in Raaba near Graz and employs around 75 people at its locations in Graz and Stuttgart. The competence fields of DCCS are in the areas of enterprise communication, collaboration and integration. DCSS uses its expertise to ensure that internal and external corporate communications run according to optimised processes. In the collaboration environment, DCCS uses its processing and technical expertise to provide more effective and efficient collaboration between its customers and employees, suppliers as well as partners.
