With the "Awareness of GSM-R international wireless train communications" project, Kapsch CarrierCom AG was nominated for the prestigious "European Excellence Awards 2008" PR prize. Companies which have exceptionally and creatively communicated about their products and services across national borders will be awarded in five main categories (and a total of 56 sub-categories). A project team consisting of research, industry and media revolutionizes the search for videos on mobile phones. By using voice recognition technology, it is possible to immediately find all available on-demand ORF programs in which a desired term is mentioned. As part of a K-net program, a solution called Mamtam was developed under the leadership of the Technical University of Graz. In December, this solution will be tested by 150 A1 customers. Kapsch CarrierCom as the general contractor, together with the ORF Online Directorate and mobilkom austria will implement this trial.

Digital wireless train communication is progressing rapidly in Austria. Recently, ÖBB Bau AG placed an order with Kapsch CarrierCom AG for the implementation of digital systems in the Lainz tunnel and in the Purkersdorf switch hall. The order volume is Euro 1.3M. Kapsch CarrierCom AG successfully won a large contract in Hungary again. In cooperation with jNetX, an innovative Service Delivery Platform (SDP) was implemented at Magyar Telekom (MT). This enables the largest Hungarian fixed network operator to develop its own Next Generation (NG) applications. The first services on this new convergent platform were implemented by Kapsch CarrierCom, such as Number Translation Services, Virtual Calling Card and PrePaid Calling Card. [ ... more ]
 

The age of digital wireless train communications begins in Austria in summer 2008. At this time, ÖBB will install the first wireless train communications system based on the GSM-R European standard on the 80km pilot route between Wels and Passau. Kapsch CarrierCom AG completed the first part of the approximately Euro 40 Million and 3500km order on time. The rollout will continue along the main railway corridors and major routes during the next phases. Austria is the third country in Central Europe after Slovakia and the Czech Republic which is implementing the modern mobile communications system for the railway and which relies on Kapsch’s expertise and know-how. The upcoming European 2008 Football Championship puts high demands on telecommunication networks. Usage peaks during the games and the concentration of large number of subscribers in and around the stadiums and fan areas require an infrastructure optimised for the event. Kapsch’s DataXtender system provides invaluable support to mobilkom austria. As official provider of telecommunications for the European 2008 Football Championship, mobilkom austria relies on DataXtender, which Kapsch developed in-house, together with ftw. (Telecommunications Research Center Vienna). mobilkom austria will use DataXtender to monitor and analyse data traffic usage during the European Football Championship. In the course of a successful program of internationalization Kapsch CarrierCom AG extends its operational presence in Southeastern Europe (SEE). After the expansion of the business activities in Belgrade, Sofia and Zagreb, and with the opening of this subsidiary in Slovenia, Kapsch continues successfully its SEE expansion strategy.

In the course of the successful export activities, Kapsch CarrierCom AG once again extends its operational presence in South-eastern Europe. With its own subsidiary in Serbia the company strengthens its local activities in the regional market. Kapsch CarrierCom is participating at the world’s largest wireless communications conference and exhibition in Barcelona from February 11^th  - 14^th. The European communications specialist for solutions for fixed and mobile network operators is presenting the new version of its DataXtender. This innovative analysis tool delivers near real-time reports for performance, usage, and quality of the networks and services, and it is technology agnostic across multiple vendor platforms. The DataXtender is successfully deployed at leading European mobile network operators. Kapsch will be demonstrating DataXtender at the Mobile World Congress in the Telemanagement Forum Members Pavilion for OSS/BSS solutions in Hall 2, Level 0, stand number 2B39.

At the end of 2007, Kapsch CarrierCom AG sold the product group MissisSIPpi to TELES AG. In the past few years, the Kapsch’s MissisSIPpi Hosted IP PBX has been successfully installed at customers such as Tele2 or T-Mobile Austria. In 2005, the solution was distinguished with the coveted Austrian tel.con 2005 Award. This asset deal was a result of a new strategical orientation of Kapsch CarrierCom, and had a purchase price in the low million Euros. [ ... more ]
 

Starting from January 2008 there will be a change in the Management Board of Kapsch CarrierCom AG. Ingolf Planer MBA, until now Managing Director of Kapsch Components KG was appointed as CFO at Kapsch CarrierCom.
